Goldsmith Project at Good Shepherd Mission

May 2007

Runnath Narin writes, "At Good Shepherd Mission we now have another project for training our older children. This project was created because of Hak SoKunthy, who lived at Good Shepherd Mission until 2001 when he moved to Kampong Cham, 100 miles northeast of Phnom Penh, to live with his brother. Kunthy learned from his brother how to be a goldsmith. Then in 2007 Kunthy, his brother, and his brother's family moved from Kampong Cham to Phnom Penh. Kunthy came many times to visit Good Shepherd Mission, and joined in our church services. We checked with our older children at GSM to see if they wanted to learn how to make rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Some of our children said they would like this work, so I asked SoKunthy if he could share some time to come and teach our older children. In May 2007 he said that he could come and teach his goldsmith trade to the children at GSM. We hope that some of our children can make money for themselves with this skill when they leave Good Shepherd Mission."

Thanks to Runnath Narin, who provided the photos below.

Kunthy "came home" to visit Good Shepherd Mission and was willing to help others living there!
Thank you Kunthy!
