"Living at Good Shepherd Mission"

A Letter from Dav Vanda.

I am very happy of my living here in Good Shepherd Mission. Everything is good for me, food, stay, let me have school and especially let me have God.

Can I tell you about my Biology in childhood at Rotanakiry province? I lived with 8 members in my family. I am the third in my family. We feed chickens, cows, pigs and doing field for our living standard. We have a good relationship in our family, eating, working, and sleeping also.

Unfortunately, my father (Dav) outbreak with TB, he coughed many times at night, he was weak and tired his health was so weak from day to day. My mother (Noun) decided to sell cows, pigs, and chickens to care for her husband’s disease. But we could not save my father.

After his death, my family started with the financial problems and lived with difficulty life. Not so long, my mother was sick and seriously ill with lung, breath, and asthma. She was so weak and could not go to work, or eat food also.

When my mother was sick, we did not have enough money to care for her, so we decided to sell home, and land for her medicine in hospital. Even though, she still deathly sick, she sick one year that we cared for her. We did not have home and land to live with, very hard for my brother and me to live. We decided to separate with our living, my brothers to stay with my aunt, and me to stay with uncle. During my stay with my uncle, he let me have school, transplanting the seeds, and shepherding cattle. I study in 1st to 2nd grade with poor several material schools (not enough pens, books, and bag) also. There are 9 children of my uncle’s family and he could not take enough times to care for me with food, school fee, and clothes.

One day, my uncle heard news about an organization “Good Shepherd Mission” (GSM) orphanage. He was concerned with GSM and sent me to live with GSM in orphanage. I was afraid when I came to live here. I saw modern houses and tall buildings in Phnom Penh city. That place is very nice for me to live and I felt with my new life in GSM to go on. My school keeps me with bright life in the future. I studied in 2nd grade in 2003, 3rd grade 2004, 4th grade 2005 at ChavPhunheaHuk elementary school. I did skip 2 grades (5th and 6th) to 7th grade in Boeung Keng Kang high school. I am very proud of with my national examination in 9th grade. So I passed it and passed to grade 10th grade this year.

The end, I would like to say THANKS to grandfather and grandmother Russell and Glenda Hall, the team work, who working for me and children here (GSM). THANKS for teacher Narin, and all staff to work here for our health and strength in next Happy New Year. They always to give me good advice and care for me deeply. God Bless You!

Love in Christ,
Dav Vanda

A deadly typhoon that slammed into China's coastal provinces and Taiwan over the weekend has displaced nearly one million people and left dozens missing. The rain of Typhoon Morakot caused the worst flooding in decades in Taiwan, where flood waters were as high as 7 feet. Cambodian government warns its people of the possible flood as the water level of the Mekong River is constantly and noticeably increasing.

I wonder if people ever notice the higher and higher level of sins over their lives that endanger themselves. Not only they do not notice the level of their sins but they even do not listen to the warning we make though Christian message.

I pray that the Typhoon of the gospel sweeps away the sin of the people and brings millions of people to take refuge in His church. Thanks for all of you supporting International Christian Mission. We are part of the gospel typhoon working to sweep away the sins of Cambodians.

Please remember us in your prayers.
